How did you decide your medical specialty?

At what point in your medical journey did you decide on your specialty and what went into your decision? What factors should one think about?

I decided mine after I knew what I liked from what I experienced during clinicals and talking with a friend who already was interested in the speciality. I knew I loved learning the processes in the body and critical care. When I talked to that friend about why he decided to go into anesthesiology, I realized I would be able to incorporate my interest daily. It helps to talk to many people about why they choose their speciality. I also would recommend finding out the common cases/duties/procedures that the field does so you can get an idea of what you might be doing on a regular basis.
